I am a hands-on, detail-oriented person who thrives on learning new skills and applying them to real-world projects. Over the years, I’ve built a wide range of experience in electrical work, construction, outdoor projects, photography, mechanical maintenance, and technical hobbies. I take pride in my ability to work independently or as part of a team, problem-solve under pressure, and see a job through from planning to completion. Every project I take on, whether it’s part of my professional path or a personal challenge, is an opportunity to improve and expand my capabilities.
My interest in skilled trades began with electrical work, where I gained valuable experience wiring a house, working with tools, and understanding the importance of safety and code compliance. I scored above average in both math and reading on the IBEW Local 5 apprenticeship entrance tests and earned a strong interview score. I’m committed to reapplying for the program, gaining more hands-on hours, and becoming a highly skilled, reliable electrician. I enjoy the problem-solving nature of the trade, as well as the physical and mental challenges it provides.
Outside of electrical work, I have completed a variety of construction and landscaping projects that required planning, physical stamina, and precision. These include building a hilltop fire pit patio, designing and installing multiple stone and concrete staircases, replacing a century-old cement driveway pad with salvaged brick, and creating durable, functional outdoor spaces. Each of these projects involved moving heavy materials by hand, grading and leveling, ensuring drainage, and producing results that have lasted for years without major maintenance.
Camping has been a major part of my life, both solo and with friends. I’ve spent weeks at a time in remote places like Spruce Knob, Dolly Sods, and Bear Rocks Preserve, facing below-freezing nights, intense rain, and challenging terrain. I’m skilled in bushcraft techniques like tarp shelter building, fire-making, small-game hunting, and navigating without GPS. These trips have taught me resilience, adaptability, and how to stay calm and effective when conditions get tough.
Photography is another passion of mine, and it often overlaps with my time outdoors. I shoot with a Canon R5 and high-quality L-series lenses, focusing on landscapes, macro photography, and wildlife. My work has taken me to scenic locations and allowed me to capture moments of peace and beauty that others might overlook. I maintain a portfolio at srphoto.us and have entered competitions, continually refining my skills in composition, lighting, and image organization.
My technical and mechanical skills extend to vehicle and bicycle maintenance. I currently maintain my Aventon Ramblas e-bike, performing everything from chain replacements to wheel balancing and brake system overhauls. In the past, I maintained a 2008 VW Jetta and a 2014 Dodge Dart, performing oil changes, brake replacements, tire rotations, and battery swaps. These skills have reinforced my attention to detail and problem-solving abilities while also giving me the confidence to handle repairs independently.
One of my more unique hobbies has been long-range marksmanship. Using a Mossberg Patriot in .300 Win Mag with a Vortex 6x18 scope, I practiced precision shooting out to 1,200 yards. This taught me the importance of small adjustments, environmental awareness, and methodical execution. It also reinforced patience and focus — qualities that benefit me in every area of my life.
I’ve also applied my creativity and planning skills to less conventional projects, such as designing and building a 250x200-foot airsoft course in the woods. This involved trail cutting, constructing bushcraft walls, and maintaining the course for five years. Projects like this demonstrate my ability to plan a layout, work with raw materials, and sustain a project over the long term.
Athletics have been another important influence on my work ethic. In high school, I lettered five times — three in swim team, once in cross country, and once in track. Training for these sports taught me dedication, perseverance, and the importance of both physical endurance and mental discipline. The lessons I learned from competitive athletics still shape the way I approach challenges today, whether in the shop, on a job site, or in the outdoors.
Across all of these experiences, one common thread is my commitment to preparation, quality, and follow-through. I believe in doing things right the first time, whether that means triple-checking measurements, ensuring safety procedures are followed, or refining a process until the result meets my standards. My work ethic is built on showing up ready, staying focused, and taking pride in the outcome. I’m ready to bring this mindset and skill set into my next opportunity, contributing my best work while continuing to grow.
