Since late 2025, I have worked on over 25 IKEA kitchen installations across the Greater Pittsburgh area. Each project involved executing cabinet layouts designed by IKEA planners while ensuring accurate placement, structural integrity, and clean finish carpentry. The work required translating detailed design plans into precise real-world measurements on walls that are rarely perfectly square or level. Delivering consistent results under tight timelines has been a core part of the role.
My responsibilities began with assembling IKEA cabinet systems and transferring layout dimensions from design drawings onto the job site. I measured, cut, and mounted suspension rails at correct heights for both upper and lower cabinets, ensuring alignment across full kitchen runs. Cabinets were then hung, leveled, and secured to create a stable base for countertops and appliances. Every installation required careful sequencing to prevent alignment errors from compounding across multiple cabinets.
A major component of the work involves finish carpentry. I measured, cut, and installed side panels and filler pieces to create a seamless, built-in appearance. Keeping visible gaps under 1/8 inch required improved spatial awareness, mathematical precision, and patience. I also measured and drilled cabinet handles and knobs using a combination square to ensure uniform spacing and perfectly level alignment across all doors and drawers.
The job requires proficiency with a wide range of tools, including tape measures, framing and speed squares, multiple levels (6’, 4’, 2’, and 6”), table saws, chop saws, circular saws, multi-tools, impact drivers, drills, angle grinders, and jigsaws. Larger elements such as 90" x 36" MDF refrigerator panels must be handled carefully to avoid cracking or damaging factory finishes. These panels often need to be safely transported from the customer’s staging area to a garage or outdoor cutting station before final installation.
Maintaining a clean and safe job site is essential, especially when working inside customers’ homes. I consistently organized materials, removed debris, and protected finished surfaces throughout the installation process. Kitchens are typically completed on time or ahead of schedule, even when mid-project changes are requested by customers.
Each installation is reviewed by a partner or supervisor, and in the last 15 kitchens, I have only had to correct two minor mistakes. This demonstrates measurable improvement in precision and consistency as I have developed stronger finish carpentry skills. These projects highlight my ability to work with accuracy, maintain professional standards, and deliver repeatable result.
